A fun weekend with friends in Toronto

This past weekend was full of fun, and is something I’ll miss after the move.

Friday started with the iron ring ceremony, a Canadian tradition in which engineering graduates take the Calling of the Engineer, getting the distinctive iron ring. It’s been eight years since I took the Calling and received mine, and this year I was asked to present one to a student who was the “bnad leedur” of the Lady Godiva Memorial Bnad. I’ve been around lots as an alum supporting and celebrating with the group, and they’d even crashed our wedding! My wife presented one too, to a student in similar circumstances.

The next morning, I met for brunch with a long-time friend and his wife. He and I have been friends since about 2002, and while we don’t see each other as we used to, we always fall right back in every time we do. We had brunch at Oretta – and what a brunch!

And yesterday, after the rainy Sunday, we had such a beautiful sunset. I’ll definitely miss these sliver views of Lake Ontario.
