Kayla and I were looking for a decent hike to complete after watching the Pride Parade in Whitehorse. We landed on Mount White, yet another relatively short and steep one to the southeast of Whitehorse. When I say steep I mean it! Our legs really felt every step of the way. Some sections of the hike involved taking microbreaks every few minutes. You get rewarded with views pretty early on.

I have read some trip logs which say that the views don’t get much better as you go up, and I would have to say those comments were probably made by people who turned around at the microwave tower. When you get to the top of the hike you have spectacular views in all directions, not just looking south along Little Atlin Lake.
Just past the top, you look south towards Minto Mountain and Little Atlin Lake is covered.

Look a little to the West, and you see Marsh Lake, as well as the Alaska Highway, the Tagish Road, and the Atlin Road.

Look east and you’ll see the Alaska Highway and some gorgeous ridges.

We stopped in this spot for our late afternoon meal, then carried along the loop in the plateau. Before moving on, we took a picture together.

The summit plateau feels quite lunar.

After circling around the top, the trail brings you through this little gap in the mountain with a gorgeous view to the West.

After a lovely descent back down the mountain to the car, we went with our new “tradition.” We either make a stop at the hot springs or for a swim. This time we took the detour to Carcross and took a quick dip in Bennett Lake.

A fitting end to the day!
