A few nights chasing the Aurora north of Whitehorse

Late December and January have been times of renovations in the house. Kayla and I are re-doing the bedrooms, starting with her office and then onto the upstairs guest bedroom. We’re removing the carpet and trim, washing the walls, patching them, painting them, then putting in new floors and trim. This has kept us busy and with fewer roadtrips (hot sptings excluded). On January 10th and 19th, however, we did head up north of town looking for auroras! Here are some of the best photos. Note that they’re taken with my crappy old iphone, and so they’re actually pretty close to how we remember them.

On the 10th, we were trying to get away from the clouds and into an area we could actually see the lights. Here they are from a pullout on the side of the road:

The best spot we saw them at, however, was Lake Laberge:

Solar conditions were even better on the 19th, but we had to travel further to get out of clouds.
