Afternoon trip to Kluane Lake

The forest fire smoke was not very cooperative while my wife’s parents were in town. When it appeared that it would clear up on a Tuesday afternoon, I frontloaded my hours for the week so we could take advantage. The first stop on a trip like this is, of course, the Village Bakery in Haines Junction. After some caffeination and a snack, we headed out to Kluane Lake. The first stop was the viewpoint just along the highway. Kluane Lake was the calmest I have ever seen it, and there was little to no wind.

Soldier’s Summit is an excellent little walk to a viewpoint out over Kluane Lake. The interpretive panels are fantastic, including some audio clips of interviews and news stories.

We then made a quick stop by Kathleen Lake before heading home. Again, the water was the calmest I’d ever seen it – and what a view!
